We made a learning decision rather than a social decision when choosing our groups.  We have learnt this term that it is not always best for our learning to go in a group with our friends.  We have also learnt that males and females bring different thinking, different ideas and different abilities to a group so a group can work together better with girls and boys in it.

ELV Edible Lunar Vehicle Project

PHOTOS FROM THE MAKING DAY

The making of the Edible Lunar Vehicle was the outcome from our context in the second half of Term 1.   Our learning around making comparisons of the environments of the earth and the moon, and looking at the features of lunar vehicles that make them suitable for travelling on the surface of the moon, gave us the ideas for our lunar vehicles. 

There were specifications that needed to be followed: 

2015 Specifications

Food items – planned and provided by your group.

2 long skewers (provided)

Your design must include the following features of a lunar vehicle
     

          Measure more than 20 cm long

          Measure more than 10 cm wide

          4 wheels that rotate

          Oxygen tank compartments

          Antenna to receive instructions

          Satellite communication dish

          Seating for astronauts

          Steering device

          Wheels suitable for travelling on the surface of the moon.

Your vehicle will need to travel a minimum of 1 metre measured from the bottom of a ramp when launched from the top of the ramp.

Making day will be Tuesday 31^st March. You need to have all your materials at school on this day.

Race Time will be 12 pm – midday. This is when you will test your design against all the others to see which one will stay together and go further than 1 metre down the ramp.

WORLD PEACE PROJECT 2

The Peace Project was made into a song and all the project partners were invited to add their music to the song.   Here is the photo of us all that was sent into the Peace project organisers. 

Our job was to make our own recording to go with the music - which we did!

World Peace Concert

World Peace Song was composed by Women of the World for the World Museum Project partners to sing with their own lyrics.

It was world premiered in the finale of the "Women of the World in Nagoya - Let's connect with the world through music making - Workshop and Concert", held at the Small Hall in the Aichi Art and Culture Center located in Sakae, Nagoya, Japan, on Mar 23, 2015.

WORLD PEACE PROJECT

Last year, the students coming into Arataki in 2015 were invited to take part in a World Peace project. The aim of the project was to unite children around the world and bring together their ideas about peace.  

On the final day of term 2014, when we came together in our new classes for a half an hour visit, we completed our initial ideas of what peace meant to us.  Here are some of the doves of peace we completed.

These pictures were sent to Lorraine Leo who is a teacher in the United States.  She was working with a professor in Japan to put together the project.   From here we were part of the music project - see the next blog entry! 

Unity Flags

Our Unity Flags are all up. They start in Room 20, go through the door into Room 21, and around the corner into Room 22.  All flags are linked together - this represents us as learners.

Karakia and Waiata

Each Morning we start our day together with a Karakia and Waitaia.   We have learnt several different Karakia and have 2 Waiata we know.  Here is a recording of one Karakia and 2 Waiata.
